Cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering Personal Data about your preferences.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this Personal Data for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any Personal Data about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies through your browser settings.

We will ask you to consent to our use of cookies in accordance with the terms of this policy when you first visit our website.

The cookies used on our website are as follows:

  • PHPSESSID - Contains a PHP "session ID", expires when the browser is closed.

This cookie is used to recognise the same user when they click from page to page. It remembers what is in your shopping basket. Without it, every page would be treated as the first visit to the site, and anything added to the shopping basket would be instantly forgotten. Online shopping would, therefore, be impossible.

  • Session - Contains a PHP "session ID", can also contain an email address and encrypted password, expires after one year

This cookie allows you to put an item in your basket, leave the website and then return at some point in the future and the contents of your shopping basket will still be available. If you sign in with an email address and password, these login details are also saved so that you can remain logged in when returning (the password is encrypted). If you sign out your login details are removed from the cookie.

  • Performance – utma, utmb and utmz

A further category of cookies which we use are called 'Performance Cookies' and we use these only to improve our site or measure response rates. All Personal Data collected by these cookies is anonymous and does not in any way impact on your privacy. The cookies below are used by Google Analytics and measure how visitors arrive at our website and how long they stay on the website.

  • Utma - expires 2 years from set/update.

This cookie is typically written to the browser upon the first visit from that web browser. This cookie is used to determine unique visitors and it is updated with each page view.

  • Utmb - expires when a user pauses on a page for longer than 30 minutes.

This cookie is used to establish and continue a user session. When a user views a page on the website, the Google Analytics code attempts to update this cookie.

  • utmz

This cookie stores the type of referral used by the visitor whether via a direct method, a referring link, a website search, or a campaign such as an ad or an email link. It is used to calculate search engine traffic, ad campaigns and page navigation. The cookie is updated with each page view to your site.

Cookies and Google

We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of our website. Google Analytics gathers Personal Data about website use by means of cookies. The Personal Data gathered relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of our website. The cookies that Google use may be stored on your computer when visiting our website. Google’s privacy policy is available at: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

Social Media Plugins

The social media share buttons only transmit data once they have been clicked. The only data the social media's servers receive from our website is referral data from the page, such a product title and image. No personal data is transmitted.

The Facebook login feature works in a similar way, and no Personal Data is transmitted to Facebook. However, once you have clicked on the button, any data that is gathered from your Facebook account, such as name and Facebook ID, will be stored within your User Account. This can be deleted, if requested.
